Alix and Jordan’s Honeybee Wedding at the Delafield Hotel

November 16, 2021

It All Started at Sal’s

Alix was born in Hawaii and Jordan in California. When Alix was in college, her parents moved to Wisconsin. Because Jordan’s mom’s family lived in Wisconsin, he spent much of his life here. The two met at a townie bar in Menomonee Falls called Sal’s. “We have quite the love for that little place! We visited them the day of our engagement just to tell them the good news.”

Jordan proposed on the coldest day to date in 2021. It was -11 outside, but he still strung lights around their Menomonee Falls gazebo. That night, Alix and Jordan had planned to walk over to their beloved Sal’s bar to meet friends. The gazebo was on the way. “As we walked, he led me to the gazebo, lit up like a Christmas tree,” Alix recalls. “There was a photographer there, and that’s when I knew. Jordan got down on one knee and our neighbors started cheering. It was so sweet but so cold.”

2 Months to Plan a Wedding

That’s right—Jordan and Alix said “I do” just two months later! “It was WILD,” Alix says. But Jordan was leaving for the military, so time was of the essence. “Covid actually benefited our planning. Because everything was so last-minute and so many vendors had cancellations from other weddings, we were able to find quality people who were happy to work with us.”

With the help of on-site coordinator Hannah Jubek, Jordan and Alix planned a wedding with both the ceremony and reception at The Delafield Hotel. The hotel was able to provide everything from catering to drinks to the wedding cake by Rebekah Radewahn. Alix and Jordan chose a color story of slate blue, dusty rose, and navy.

Their wedding theme? Honey bees. “We love honey bees for many reasons,” Alix says. “It’s our favorite song, the name Jordan calls me, and we love the sentiment that honey bees travel miles from the hive every day for work, but always find their way home. With Jordan leaving for the military, home is a sacred place for us, and bees are a constant reminder that he will always find his way back.”

Alix gleaned most of her wedding inspiration directly from Premier Bride. Here’s how it happened: “I picked up the Premier Bride magazine from the Delafield Hotel after I had brunch there, and I planned my entire wedding using the Delafield Hotel as my main vendor, along with Premier Bride’s tips for picking my other vendors. I carried it everywhere with me. My mom would always ask me, ‘Was that in the magazine?’ after I would make a decision.”

The Wedding Day

Jordan and Alix had planned to write each other letters while holding hands around the corner before the ceremony. “We both forgot,” Alix says. “When I woke up, I wrote Jordan’s letter on a notepad in the hotel room, not expecting that he forgot too. When I got to the corner, I was handed a piece of folded-up hotel paper—Jordan’s note. It was so funny that we had both forgotten and solved the problem in the same way.”

Jordan finally saw Alix in her Essence of Australia gown as she walked down the aisle to their song, “Honey Bee.” The two were married by one of their dear friends who is also in the military. “He traveled with his wife all the way from San Antonio to marry us. It made for a very emotional and genuine ceremony.”

Dinner, Drinks & Dessert
Alix describes The Delafield Hotel food as “elevated classic entrées.” There were three passed hors d’oeuvres of bruschetta, shrimp avocado cucumber bites, and bourbon chicken bites. Dinner included three choices: vegetarian strudel, short rib, and a chicken dish. The cake was honey bee themed with banana cake, chocolate peanut butter mousse filling, and a semi-naked finish. To end the night, the hotel unveiled a soft pretzel bar—”the highlight of the evening!”

Décor & More
The bride and groom were floored by the beauty when they entered the reception hall. “It was amazing how everything came together. It looked like a dream.” Alix says her favorite DIY project was the acrylic name cards they designed for the seating chart. “We had acrylic hexagons we painted with the name and table of each guest. They were about the size of coasters.” When they were all laid out on the seating table, it created a honeycomb effect.

Another unique part of the wedding: the music! “I am Samoan and Jordan is Vietnamese,” Alix says. “Our DJ made sure to incorporate both themes into our music and still keep the party going. The whole night was very energetic.”
