Tim and Amber met one fateful New Year’s Eve in New York City. Amber was new to the city, but through connections, she ended up at the same New Year’s bar party as Tim. The bar was Jake’s Dilemma on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and Tim’s friends happened to arrive super early to snag one of only two booths. At one point, Amber and her friends noticed open seats at the booth and asked to sit down. Both groups squeezed into the booth, and Amber snagged a seat right next to Tim. They chatted, and Tim boldly kissed her at midnight. Four days later, the two of them were back at Jake’s for $1 beers—and the rest is history!
Fast-forward to another New Year’s Eve, this one on a cruise in the Caribbean with all of their friends. Amber thought Tim might have a proposal planned, but she couldn’t prove it and was left guessing until midnight. As the countdown began, Tim got down on one knee and asked Amber to marry him.
Amber and Tim planned a full wedding weekend at Lake Lawn Resort, located on Delavan Lake. Their plan was to host a fun-filled day called Camp Timber on Saturday, finishing the weekend with a Sunday wedding.
“We chose Lake Lawn because we saw it as the perfect place to host Camp Timber. We knew we would have a lot of out-of-state guests so we wanted to find a place that would be fun to travel to and spend the entire weekend at. Lake Lawn offered just that! We also really liked how it still gave off this vintage-rustic camp feel.”
In planning for Camp Timber’s Timber Games, Tim and Amber drafted their friends ahead of time onto teams. “We had family and friends telling us they were excited to be on Team Green or Team Blue. When looking back at our Camp Timber weekend, the moments that stick out most are all the quality time we were able to spend with friends and family, from our late nights by the bonfire catching up to kayaking to hanging by the pool.”
The Sunday ceremony took place on Lake Lawn’s Enchanted Shore along Lake Delavan. “Tim and I wanted to make it our own, and we started with our musical choices,” Amber says. “Our bridal party walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of ‘Hey Ya.’ We wanted to keep our ceremony short and sweet, and we’re glad we did because it was 90+ degrees outside. Tim and I both came up with our own unique vows, but my favorite part of the ceremony was where Tim sang original lyrics to the song ‘Hey Julie’ which he appropriately changed to ‘Hey Amber.’ Our friends and family were laughing and bopping along. It was so perfect.”
For the reception, the party moved to the Lake Lawn Queen’s Table. “It was the perfect space for our vintage camp vibe, with great beams overhead and the open space.” Food was catered by Lake Lawn. There was bacon-wrapped chicken and beef filets with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Lake Lawn even made sure to serve Amber and Tim’s favorite Wisconsin beer, Moon Man.
Dessert was a funfetti cake from Lovin’ Oven. To fit the camp theme, the cake was decorated to look like a birch tree with the bride and groom’s names encircled by a heart. “The cake topper was originally my grandma’s that my mom had also used,” Amber says. “We repainted the groom’s suit orange to match Tim’s!”
Tim, Amber, and their parents worked hard to make their first dance songs extra special by coming up with a fun routine for their father-daughter and mother-son dances. As for the bride and groom: “We kind of had two first dances. We came into the reception with our theme song, ‘Timber’ by Kesha. The room was so excited it just turned into a dance!”
Following the first dances, 90s cover band Fool House kept the dance floor going all night. “They were by far our favorite part of the reception. By booking a band, it felt like a private concert for our family and friends. Fool House was unbelievable and such a perfect way to end an epic weekend.”
From ceremony to reception, rehearsal dinner to wedding dinner, even makeup to hair styling from the on-site Calladora Spa, Lake Lawn Resort provided everything Amber and Tim could have wanted for their wedding weekend. “Jaci is an incredible resource at Lake Lawn . She was helpful with answering all of our questions—the rescheduled date due to COVID, helping with day-of organization, and overall just being the wedding expert. She has done so many weddings, so it was nice to let her guide the show.”
Amber advises future brides to be smart about what they plan when. A lot of details can’t be figured out until you have your final guest count, which is pretty late in the process. During the long patch of time between securing your vendors and having that final guest count, focus on tasks you don’t need your count for. “Check some bigger-picture items off earlier in the planning, like your registry and honeymoon.”
