Milwaukee Wedding at Story Hill Firehouse

From the dance floor at a bar to the dance floor at their wedding, this couple’s story is filled with pure joy, fun, and love.

How They Met

Jessie and Kevin met at a local bar on dollar beer night. Not only was it dollar beer night, but it was also “nerd” night, which included a DJ, costume contest, and all. Kevin approached Jessie on the dance floor, and they danced together for only a few minutes before he left. The next day, the DJ posted photos on Facebook, and Kevin commented on the post asking “who the hot blonde” was. One of Jessie’s friends saw the cheeky comment and tagged her in the photo to help complete the missed connection. Soon after, the two began talking over Facebook Messenger, and the rest is history.

The Engagement

Jessie and Kevin, who had been dating for eight years, were on their way to Wisconsin for a family wedding. They had plans to eat at Jessie’s favorite pizza place in downtown Kenosha, Villa D’ Carlos, with her family. Before going to dinner, everybody walked down to the harbor to take a family picture. During the photo session, Kevin got down on one knee and proposed!

The Dress

Jessie found her wedding dress at Bon Bon Belle Bridal Boutique in Burlington, Wisconsin. Her heart was set on a bohemian-style gown since she’s not much of a glitter or tulle gal. She tried on around 10 dresses, and the last one she slipped on, a stunning boho dress by All Who Wander, was one her mom requested.

The Ceremony

Jessie and Kevin’s wedding ceremony was held at the Story Hill Firehouse in Milwaukee. The couple wrote their own vows, which made everyone cry. Their reverend had also married the last four people in the family, which made the officiant speech extra special. Their ceremony was loosely based on Freya, the goddess of marriage in Norse mythology. They even held their wedding on a Friday, which is good luck in Viking culture. Jessie absolutely loved working with Amy Weigert, the Events Director at Story Hill Firehouse. She was extremely helpful in all of the planning and always made Jessie feel at ease.

The Reception

Paying homage to the historic 1920s firehouse venue, Jessie and Kevin’s bridal party wore firefighter helmets during the grand introductions to kick off the reception. The newlyweds shared their first dance with the firehouse carriage doors open and the Edison light bulbs aglow, creating a magical ambiance. Guests were handed glow sticks and inflatable instruments, which were a huge hit and made the dance floor even more vibrant.

The Food and Drinks

For dinner, guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet from All Occasions Catering out of Big Bend, Wisconsin. The mouthwatering menu included brisket, pulled chicken, macaroni and cheese, garlic potatoes, salad, and rolls. The open bar featured a signature drink called the Lani Jean, a gin and tonic named after the pair’s beloved dog. Dessert included donuts and cookies from Paielli’s Bakery in Kenosha. Some of the cookies were even shaped and decorated to look like Lani Jean! In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Jessie and Kevin’s guests indulged in a tower of Cinnabon cinnamon rolls – icing and all.

The Bride’s Favorite Moments

Jessie will never forget the moment she finally was able to soak in a year’s worth of planning coming together perfectly. The moment she walked out of the bridal suite for the first time, she was able to feel all the hard work, sleepless nights, stress, and anxiety simply melt away. She was in complete awe with the flowers and how her florist, Impressions by Esther Fleming, made her vision come to life.
