How They Met

It was love at right swipe for Monica and Chris, who met through the dating app Hinge when the pandemic hit in early 2020. Like most people, both of them were hunkering down at home for a few weeks while everything was shut down. Chris asked Monica if she wanted to enjoy a glass of wine over video chat, and the virtual date ended up lasting four hours. After a few more video dates, the two finally met in-person for a cheese and charcuterie picnic at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.

Over the span of three short years, they have seen each other complete a total of four degrees, possess seven job titles, and become nurses together. Monica and Chris are also the proud owners of two dogs, including a puppy they got this summer when they bought their first home.

The Engagement

Monica and Chris were visiting his sister in Arizona when they got engaged. Chris treated his girlfriend and sister to get their nails done, and he even got his first “man”-icure. The couple stayed at a gorgeous hotel overlooking the mountains. While on the way to dinner one night, Chris led Monica down a path toward the golf course. The path, filled with white rose petals, led to champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. After Chris proposed, his family popped out from behind a nearby tree to take photos and celebrate the engagement.

The Planning

Monica and Chris attended several wedding shows including the Wonderful World of Weddings, WEDMKE and the Lake Country Wedding Show to help with their planning process.

The Dress

Monica found her dream wedding dress, designed by Enzoani, at All About the Gown in Lake Geneva. It was the perfect fit and so elegant.

The Ceremony

Monica and Chris got married on the rooftop of Vista, an event venue on Old World 3rd Street/Doctor M.L.K. Jr. Drive in Downtown Milwaukee. The couple wrote and recited their own vows and said their I do’s on the balcony.

The Reception

“The reception was absolutely the best party we’ve ever been to!” the couple shares. In lieu of a DJ, Monica and Chris curated the entire playlist, which facilitated non-stop dancing late into the evening. Guests had a blast at the photo booth, and the live painter, Brad Geers, put on a show of his own. His artwork turned out fantastic!

The Food and Drinks

Hidden Kitchen prepared and catered the appetizers and dinner and “absolutely crushed it,” according to Monica and Chris. Guests enjoyed noshing on a burrata grazing table during cocktail hour, along with a roasted beet appetizer with tahini yogurt spread and pepitas, Jamaican jerk rubbed chicken breast with sweet potato, roasted sweet corn and poblano peppers, and salsa verde braised chicken thighs with red rice and roasted vegetables. HHG supplied all of the drinks for the big day before the newlyweds took the after party down to Camp Bar on the ground level. The couple’s friends at Country Rose Bakery & Cafe created a beautiful and decadent wedding cake — vanilla cake studded with chocolate chips and Bavarian cream filling.
